Historical Perspective and Present Practice of Cardiac Catheterization

چکیده
It is difficult to imagine what our concepts of heart disease might be like today if we had to construct them without the enormous reservoir of physiologic and anatomic knowledge derived from the past 60 years' experience in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. As Andre Cournand remarked in his Nobel lecture of December 11, 1956, “the cardiac catheter was. . . the key in the lock” . By turning this key, Cournand and his colleagues led us into a new era in the understanding of normal and disordered cardiac function in humans. (1)

Background and Aim: Acute urinary retention is an acute emergency identified by inability to void and also lower abdominal pain. This problem generally occurs following surgery or cardiac catheterization and needs to be solved through urinary catheterization, a procedure that raises the risk of urinary tract infections. Therefore, alternative ways of relieving urinary retention, preferably no...
متن کاملRelationship between Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte Ratio and the Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Patients Undergoing Cardiac Catheterization
Introduction: Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is considered as an independent predictor of long-term prognosis in the individual patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). This study sought to assess the relationship between NLR and CAD severity in Iranian patients undergoing cardiac catheterization.Material and Methods: This prospective study was conducted on 500 patients with acute cor...

Introduction: One of the most frequently used methods for the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases is cardiac catheterization which causes anxiety and pain in patients. Relaxation techniques such as guided imagery can make patients feel more relaxed. The present study aimed to determine the effect of guided imagery on anxiety and pain levels of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization...
متن کاملEffect of Rosa aromatherapy on anxiety before cardiac catheterization: A randomized controlled trial
Background and Objectives: Most patients experience moderate to severe anxiety before cardiac catheterization. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Rosa aromatherapy on anxiety before cardiac catheterization. Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 60 patients who met the inclusion criteria were conveniently sampled and randomly allocated to the experimental and control groups. P...

Background and Aim: Cardiac catheterization is a widely used cardiac investigation procedure in Iran. However, back pain is frequently reported following cardiac catheterization due to prolonged bed rest after the procedure. There is no research about factors that affect back pain. This study was designed to explore these factors in patients admitted to Taleghani hospital for cardiac catheter...
